What to Expect From RU2024
EVENT KICK-OFF SPEAKER
Heidi Washington
Director at Michigan Department of Corrections
Heidi E. Washington has been the director of the Michigan Department of Corrections since July 2015 and was reappointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in December 2018. In this role, she oversees the administration of Michigan's correctional system, which includes state prisons, probation and parole supervision, the Parole Board, and other administrative functions, while managing a $1.9 billion budget.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Dr. Stanley Andrisse
Founder of From Prison to PhD
Stanley Andrisse is an American endocrinologist, scientist, and writer, currently serving as an assistant professor at Howard University College of Medicine. His research focuses on Type 2 diabetes and the mechanisms of insulin resistance. He is the author of From Prison Cells to PhD: It is Never Too Late to Do Good and directs an outreach program that helps formerly incarcerated individuals pursue college education.
“Yes, I am a convicted felon. But I am also a doctor, a scientist, an MBA holder, a newlywed husband, a son to an aging mother, a community organizer, an institutional leader, a youth mentor, a published author, and many other things. Eliminating me before you know all of these other great things is an injustice to society.”

Through funding and professional support from Michigan Works! West Central and the Michigan Department of Corrections Region 4 OS Reentry Program Reentry United Conference was launched in 2022 and continues annually.
The goal of the Reentry United Conference is to gather the Solutionaries annually for Networking, Equipping, Inspiration, and Solution Based Conversations at our Reentry United Conference.
